KIMMSWICK, MISSOURI HEATING AND COOLING SERVICES
Kimmswick has its fair share of swampy land that hosts salt and mineral springs. The land had previously drawn people to it due to the salt deposits from the salt springs. The land where Kimmswick would later be established had been habituated by humans all the way from the end of the last Ice Age. Early settlers eventually made their way there too and acquired land through Spanish land grants in the 1700s. Once the land came under the United States’ control after France had sold it to them, Kimmswick started to become a reality. Theodore Kimm bought the land from Captain George Washington Waters on October 4, 1850. He then founded the town in 1859. The reason he had established the town was because of the St. Louis and Iron Mountain Railroad that had been built along the Mississippi River. The railroad offered quick travel and access to Kimmswick. By 1867, the small town was flourishing and had several stores.
Theodore Kimm died on February 5, 1886, in Switzerland. Kimmswick’s city hall was built seventeen years later. In 1880, a large amusement park opened in Kimmswick and attracted thousands of visitors. After it was opened, showboats started to come through the town before they finally stopped coming in 1933. Life started to slow down in Kimmswick once cars became the main source of transportation.
